ROKEBY MISSION UPDATE - Throughout the month of December, we observed similarities and differences in the ways that Christmas is celebrated in Japan and Canada. Shopping malls are filled with decorations and music. There is Christmas cake; but, it is strawberry shortcake. Christmas in Japan has its own traditional meal: Kentucky Fried Chicken. Statues of everyone's favourite white-haired colonel dressed as Santa appear in front of each KFC location. Many in Canada know that Christmas is related to Christ, but the majority of people in Japan have never heard the name Jesus. So, Christmas can be a natural time to share the Gospel.
